I love it! What is the fabric? It's stunning. The brass details are the perfect touch!

Victorian Mourning Costume

I volunteer at Oakland Cemetery, the historic cemetery here in Atlanta. We wear costumes for several annual events, so I wanted to do a Victorian widow costume. I went with the Natural Form patterns, so it's the TV420 bodice, 221 underskirt and 324 overskirt. The undergarments include the TV110 cors...

Re: TV420 Question: Sleeves and Boning

That turned out to be very easy! I'm super visual, so I just couldn't picture it in my head until it was time to actually turn the bodice right side out. (I'm one of those people who can't add 2 plus 2 in my head; I have to write it down. Okay, maybe I'm not that bad, but close...) I'm adding the bu...

Re: TV420 Question: Sleeves and Boning

Thanks, Heather! I had visions of me getting it all stuck and wadded up inside a sleeve! The bodice is the last piece: I've already done the bloomers, corset, petticoat and skirts in the Natural Form ensembles. I am SO HAPPY with how they've turned out! Your instructions made the corset easier than ...

TV420 Question: Sleeves and Boning

I'm working on the TV420A bodice and have a silly question. In the instructions, it says to attach the sleeves, then attach the lining and turn the bodice right side out through the armhole. My question is: how difficult is it to pull the fashion fabric with the boning out through a sleeve to get ev...

Re: TV 324 Length?

Thanks, Heather! I'm totally fine with it hanging low. I just wanted to make sure it was actually supposed to look that way! I've already done the Natural Form underwear set and it all turned out great! I'm hoping to have the skirt and underskirt finished in the next couple weeks.

TV 324 Length?

I'm working on a TV 324 overskirt right now. I didn't modify the length, figuring it doesn't matter since it's pleated up, anyway. (Typically, I have to add length as I'm 5'9".) My question is, where is the front of the skirt supposed to hit once it's completed? Right now it's looking like the ...

Material choices for Natural Form dress set?

I'm working on my undergarments now, and I want to start looking for material for the Natural Form dress set (TV221 underskirt, TV324 drape overskirt, and TV420 bodice). I will probably use the same material for all three pieces since this is a mourning costume. My question is: what materials will h...

Re: Idea for Steam Punk Outfit

Cute design! I agree with radioclerk: it's great to create a character, and use it as inspiration for your costuming. It can really help when it comes to choosing accessories/props, so they all tie in together. Plus, it's always fun to have an answer ready when someone says, "And what are you s...

Color for a widow's underwear?

My goal this winter is to make a Victorian widow's costume. I have a lot of white muslin on hand that would be perfect for making the underwear set. However, would a widow wear white undies? I plan to make the petticoat and corset out of black material, but am not sure about the chemise and drawers....
