I completely understand. I had a hard time adjusting to the styles, too. I loved the way it looked on other people, but when I tried it on, I thought my butt and hips looked huge! I agree with Bookwyrm. If the flowers are placed like a traditional corsage, they may not look Victorian. Careful placement along the waist and neckline will look more natural and feminine. Have you given any more thought to what types of flowers you'll use?

Would a bigger size be less likely to stretch? Even if it is less likely to stretch, it wouldn't do its job if it were too big. My waist is so difficult to train because I keep wearing looser corsets just for comfort's sake.

How common was it for women in the Victorian era to get a rib removed? It seems to me like women back then would have the same tissue vs. ribs issue that we have today. Or have our bodies actually evolved into different shapes than theirs?

I agree. I'd adjust the pattern so that the dart is at the bust. It's the easiest way to conceal a dart. Your ability to do this may depend on the size of your waist and chest.
