OT- Regency Gown and Stays

So, believe it or not, I'm still alive and kicking. Just... busy. As usual. Only more so. This was a huge project for me, and a huge step in my sewing career, since I drafted everything essentially from scratch, and handsewed every. Last. Stitch. On a deadline . Yes, I am crazy. My stays are very li...

I'd been using a sharp pencil and a chopstick, but I wanted my Regency stays to be perfect and I was doing handworked eyelets, so I bought an awl. (It's the same one Lioness posted a picture of.) I can't believe how much I love it!

HEATHER'S MAKING A CORSET PATTERN?!?!?! How did I miss that ? This is so exciting! My current corset is too small in teh bust (tragic, no?) so I need a new one and I was thinking of doing one from Ageless Patterns or else Corsets and Crinolines (I've sort of given myself a crash-course in drafting t...

I'm late to the party... or funeral, or whatever the hell this is, but I thought I'd throw in my opinion anyway. I do work with museums. I answer people's questions. My local museum asks me to date their period pieces. But here's the thing. If someone asked me what my actual quailifications were? Di...

Soooo pretty! Having reccently attempted millenery, (not an experience I'd like to repeat), I can REALLY say that this hat is just lovely. As for needles... *snort.* I've been known to break a denim needle sewing on-- get thiss-- two layers of muslin. I sometimes wonder if it's me or my machine (a f...

I think I cut a ten bust, and eight waist, and a twelve at the hips and I only had to take out the odd half inch here and there. So I'm really not sure why you're having so much trouble. I'm naturally 33-24.5-37, so you're really not much smaller than I am. (And hon, your waist isn't that far off fr...

Hehe. Is Frank still hanging around here? I suppose I ought to make the Regency stays. It's really much more a time issue than anything else (I have no problem making stays), because we were talking about having a Regency event later this year and with school and my insane courseload starting next w...

Mademkat, you can so do this. If you can make the gowns that you have in the past, then you can by all means make a corset. Kits are tempting, but don't do it, for reasons aforementioned. The actual supplies aren't difficult. You should only need a yard or maybe two of coutil, a busk, a grommet sett...
