Re: New skirt

I LOVE your trim treatment above the pleated flounce. Very nicely done.

Re: Modified 1840's Day dress

You did a really lovely job on the dress. I did want to pipe up to say that as far as I've seen I don't believe that the 1840's typically had a ruffle round the bottom of the skirt, however, I'm no expert on the 1840's. If you still can't get any nibbles from buyers you might consider removing the b...

Re: Sewing Machine Recommendations

Heather is right about the cost of new sewing machines and in particular the embroidery machines, it's shocking. I have an older mechanical Viking and it's a good machine. I bought a newer computerized Viking recently and I ended up swapping for two different models (Emerald 183, Saphire 835...

Re: Pleating

Miss Cindy, I'll have to try out the ratios and see how that works out for me. Thanks for your help. Oh! Halving. That's how I pin on and gather a ruffled flounce. Works quite nicely too. I didn't think that would work for pleats but I see that if you took it all the way down to pleat size it would ...

Pleating

I'm making the TV221 Tie-back under skirt. Gathering a ruffle is easy but how do you calculate the pleats per inch so your pleated flounce fits your skirt circumference? I don't want a skimpy pleated flounce or to have to rip it all out and do it over because I ran short. How did you do the pleated ...

Age Appropriate Dress

I know that styles and color palettes change for women as they age and since I have transitioned from 'young thing' to 'middle aged lady'  I'm looking for styles of dress that would be age appropriate for me. Victorian dress is pretty easy but what about Civil War era, particularly ball...

Hey Rangerfeline,
I'd love to see the San Francisco Bay area sometime! I'll watch for your Albion Steampunk con report too. Thanks for the recommendations! *goes off happily to Google event websites*

Newbie From Western Washington (State, That Is)

Hi, *waves* I've been interested in historic costume since I was little, something about long gowns, high tea, ballrooms and drawing rooms just fascinates me. I'm interested in several eras: 18th century, Regency, Civil War, Victorian and Edwardian and am currently working on a Civil War day dress t...

How About The Western Washinton Area

ggmcrose, I know exactly what you mean about the all dressed up but where shall I go problem. I haven't been able to find many events in my area. The Port Townsend event has been canceled for March 2010 but will be back for 2011. I was wondering if anyone knew of any events in Western Washington? I'...
